There's a maximum of eight students per class, so all students will receive individual attention and progress at their own pace.

Class times are flexible: you can choose from weekday mornings, afternoons or evenings.  Some Saturday classes are also available.

Mid-term enrolments are often possible. Please contact us and we'll do our best to fit you in.

For students enrolled in the professional program, longer classes or multiple courses, discounts may apply.

This class is open to everyone: home sewers, hobbyists and professionals. It's also available as part of the Professional Program or HSC Textiles Program.

couture embroidery techniques Course Details

This course is taught by award-winning textile artist Eranga Bandaranayake and provides an introduction to hand embroidery and embellishments, exploring creative techniques that provide endless applications in industries such as couture sewing, bridal, costume and millinery. The course encourages deriving inspiration from nature, exploring and converting the studies into textile medium using decorative techniques in order to enhance the aesthetics and appearance of fashion and textile products. The students will apply the knowledge and skill to create a fashion accessory based on their own design.

It suits students, fashion designers and individuals who are interested in embellishment to increase their skills, create a portfolio piece or just enjoy creating beautiful unique garments. Design students wishing to complete a portfolio piece would benefit from taking the course over a full day per week. All students may attend more than one session per week in order to progress their work more quickly.

Embroidery and Embellishment is a very broad topic and continuing students will be provided with projects and instruction to attempt more complex work.
